Ecuadorian Alpine Institute (EAI) is a professional mountaineering and adventure company specializing in guided mountain climbing, volcano expeditions and high-altitude trekking in Ecuador. Based in the heart of the Ecuadorian Andes, we help climbers and adventure travelers experience some of the country’s most spectacular mountains, including Chimborazo, Cotopaxi, Cayambe, Antisana and the Ilinizas.
Since 1998, our mission has been to provide authentic, professionally guided mountain experiences that combine adventure, technical expertise, local knowledge and a strong commitment to safety.

Adventures for Experienced Climbers and Beginners
You don't need to be an experienced mountaineer to discover the Ecuadorian Andes with us.
Ecuadorian Alpine Institute welcomes both experienced climbers and beginners who want to develop their skills and gain confidence in a high-altitude mountain environment. Programs can be adapted according to participants' previous experience, physical preparation and climbing objectives.
For travelers interested in developing their technical abilities, our mountaineering and climbing instruction introduces essential skills for glacier and alpine environments, including knot tying, ice-axe techniques, self-rescue, crevasse rescue and mountain navigation.
This combination of training, acclimatization and practical mountain experience can help climbers prepare for more demanding objectives in Ecuador and beyond.
Personalized Mountain Guiding
We believe that successful mountain adventures begin with professional guidance and personal attention.
Our climbing programs generally operate with a low client-to-guide ratio, typically between 2:1 and 3:1, depending on the mountain, route, conditions and technical requirements of the expedition.
Smaller climbing groups allow our guides to provide closer attention to participants while evaluating factors such as acclimatization, pace, weather and changing mountain conditions.
In high-altitude mountaineering, reaching the summit is an important objective, but responsible decision-making and safety always come first.
Experience Led by Ramiro Cunalata Donoso
Ecuadorian Alpine Institute was founded by Ramiro Cunalata Donoso, an Ecuadorian professional mountain guide with decades of climbing and guiding experience in Ecuador, South America and Europe.
His extensive experience in the Ecuadorian Andes includes ascents of many of the country's most important mountains and volcanoes, including Chimborazo, Cotopaxi, Cayambe, Antisana, Iliniza Sur, Iliniza Norte, El Altar, Tungurahua, Corazón, Imbabura and the Pichinchas.
His mountaineering experience extends beyond Ecuador to major climbing destinations in Perú, Bolivia and Europe, including peaks in the Cordillera Blanca and the Bolivian Andes, as well as alpine experience in Europe.
Ramiro's international mountain experience is complemented by training in areas such as skiing and avalanche safety in Switzerland.
He speaks English, French and Spanish, allowing Ecuadorian Alpine Institute to welcome and guide international adventurers from around the world.
